The Cradle

A building made from wood is an architectural argument before it is a property listing, so the site had to make the case before it made the pitch.

01

The problem

Selling a sustainability argument, not floorspace

The Cradle is a cross-laminated timber office building in Düsseldorf, built to cradle-to-cradle principles. Its selling point is the construction philosophy: a building designed so its materials can be recovered rather than demolished.

Prospective tenants are commercial, and the audience is bilingual. So the site has to explain an architectural and environmental argument in two languages, then convert that interest into a leasing conversation.

02

What we did

Let the structure be the hero

The site opens on an animated wireframe of the building's timber frame rather than a rendered photograph. That is the correct choice for this project: the structure is the story, and a wireframe says engineering where a render says marketing.

The palette is a single deep green with almost nothing else, which for a sustainability-led development does the positioning work without a paragraph of copy.

It is a custom front-end build rather than a CMS site. For a single-building development with a finite content set and a defined marketing period, that avoids carrying a content platform nobody needs.

German and English are handled as a first-class language toggle rather than a translation plugin, because the tenant audience genuinely splits between the two.

  • Animated structural wireframe as the hero
  • Bilingual German and English with a persistent toggle
  • Custom front-end build without a CMS
  • Leasing enquiry as the single conversion goal
03

The outcome

The argument lands before the floorplan

The site leads with the building's construction philosophy in both languages, and routes interested commercial tenants into a leasing conversation.

What we learned

  • 01

Match the visual language to the argument. A wireframe reads as engineering; a render reads as sales.

  • 02

Not every site needs a CMS. A fixed content set and a defined campaign window is a good reason to skip one.

Thirty minutes with the engineer who would lead the project. You will leave with an opinion on what to build, what to skip, and roughly what it costs, whether or not you hire us.
